boyz ii men (ft. charlie wilson), more than youll ever know, twenty
real. rhythm. robust. roaring. boyz ii men are the staple rnb group of the 90s. they were the first super-mainstream concert i attended. their music made me feel things only a grown man who had been pained experienced. for some morbid, sadistic reason, i wanted to feel the intense, raw and extreme emotions they were singing about.
i wanted to be on bended knee. i wanted go to the end of the road but then i wanted to make love to you. hell, i wanted to let you know that im doin just fine without you in my life. they tell their stories with such conviction that its hard for me not to want to harmonize in the background regardless of the content of the song.
i say all that to say, more than youll ever know (download here) is a cool ballad. it doesnt necessarily take me back to any of their singles from their icnoic ii album but it does remind me what true rnb is. i genuinely miss it. i personally dont hear enough of this type of music being produced today so im relegated to reviving the oldies yet goodies. for now, this track will get me through.
fortunately, this single is from their forthcoming album, twenty, to celebrate their career in music. hopefully there are some other tracks that will get some serious airplay.
